Das Projekt PAN-history ist Teil der interdisziplinären Arbeitsgruppe Konfliktlandschaften, die sich multiperspektivisch mit gewaltüberformten Orten befasst und die deren materielle Transformation und diskursive Konstruktion als ineinander verschränkte Prozesse analysiert (vgl. Interdisziplinäre Arbeitsgruppe Konfliktlandschaften IAK). Ein Ziel der IAK ist die Entwicklung eines Methodensets, das sozial-, kultur- und naturwissenschaftliche Herangehensweisen miteinander verbindet und für Detektion, Dokumentation, Analyse und Vermittlung der Produktion von Konfliktlandschaften fruchtbar macht (vgl. Projekte der IAK).

Das Projekt PAN-history hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, eine App zum Langzeit-Monitoring von Konfliktlandschaftenzu entwickeln. Das System verfolgt einen crowdsourcing-basierten, citizen science orientierten und partizipativ orientierten Ansatz zur Langzeitbeobachtung von Transformationen historisch aufgeladener Orte durch anthropogene sowie natürliche Prozesse. Dabei soll die von der AG Umweltinformatik und Kommunalplanung erarbeitete App "panature" weiter entwickelt werden. Derzeit liegt ein Prototyp vor (allerdings nur für das Betriebssystem Android).

Das System soll aus zwei Komponenten bestehen:
Mit der App "PAN-history" erfolgen die Aufnahme von Fotos an vorgegebenen Standorten von Nutzern (Crowdsourcing). Die Fotos werden nach Freigabe durch den Nutzer auf einen Server der Universität Osnabrück übertragen.

Mit einem Webfrontend, das auf den Server zugreift, erfolgen Anlage und Verwaltung der POIs sowie vor allem die Verarbeitung der Fotodokumentation.

Der Prototyp unter Android wurde im städtischen Raum bei relativ guter Internetverbindung getestet. Weiterentwicklungen betreffen Anwendung für IOS, Testausweitung auf weitere Smartphones, Übertragung der Fotos bei nicht optimaler Internetverbindung, Erprobung an realen POIs.

All data is collected and used for the purpose of making a scientific contribution to the joint project Conflict Landscapes. This project aims to establish a long-term observation of the transformations of historically charged places (through anthropogenic as well as natural processes. The term not only includes 'battlefields' in the strict sense, but can refer to all places that have undergone a material or narrative reshaping due to a conflict. It can also be the scene of a military conflict, the location of a camp or a fortification, a border strip or a place conceived as a conflict landscape.

When using this app, the following data is collected and saved on the project server (project server location: Campus of the University of Osnabrück / Germany):
Recorded images. Meta data (EXIF) of the images according to the end device (recording coordinates, recording time, recording parameters, type of end device).

Since photos are created with your smartphone, access to the camera and the memory of your device is necessary. The photos you have taken will only be uploaded to the server after your confirmation.

Consent to use the app and the collection of photos is given, depending on the operating system, with the download of the app or through a dialog during the runtime of the app. You can disable access to the location data in the device settings.

The photos are only used to create a new documentation of the location. When the app starts, the photos of the observations made so far are synchronized. The data will only be used for research purposes.
