Der Forschungsschwerpunkt des Fachgebiets liegt an der Schnittstelle von Internationaler und Vergleichender Politischen Ökonomie, insbesondere in den Bereichen:

Europäische Wirtschaftsintegration
Politik der Finanzialisierung und globaler Finanzmärkte
Wachstumsmodelle in der Weltwirtschaftsordnung

Lebenslauf

Daniel Mertens ist seit 2019 Professor für Internationale Politische Ökonomie am Institut für Sozialwissenschaften der Universität Osnabrück. Zwischen 2014 und 2019 war er Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Politikwissenschaft der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main im Arbeitsbereich Internationale Beziehungen und Internationale Politische Ökonomie. 2014 wurde er mit einer Arbeit zur politischen Ökonomie privater Verschuldung im deutschen Exportmodell an der Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Köln promoviert, nachdem er zwischen 2009 und 2014 als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter und Stipendiat am Max-Planck-Institut für Gesellschaftsforschung in Köln beschäftigt war. Zuvor studierte er Politikwissenschaft, Rechtswissenschaft und Betriebswirtschaftslehre an den Universitäten Bonn und Leeds.
